Company Degenhart 1890
with workshop

The Degenhart Family can look back at a long family history. The master blacksmith Josef Degenhart founded the business in 1898 as a blacksmith including hardware store in house no. 8 ½ in Schwaighausen. In 1901, he extended the business and started selling machinery of “Maschinen in Leutkirch”, a neighbouring equipment manufacturer.

In 1914, Josef Degenhart handed the business over to Georg Degenhart.

After the mechanization of farming, the first motor tractors were built in Schwaighausen in 1930. Used truck parts were used to assemble a chassis, and a sheet steel box was used as a housing for the gears for power transmission. A one cylinder engine with 12 horsepower or a two cylinder engine with 20 horsepower from “Motorenfabrik Mannheim” were used as engines.

The picture on the left shows a Degenhart tractor with reaper-binder in action. The crops are cut on the right side, bundled and deposited on the left. A precursor of combined harvesters.

In 1938, Johann Degenhart took over the business of blacksmith and machine sales.

The tractor production is in full swing.

1954 with one of our last assembled tractor

1954 with one of our last assembled tractors Tractor construction was stopped in 1954. Of the approximately 50 factory produced tractor brands, the "Lanz-Bulldog" with 12 horsepower and the "Allgäuer" or "Kramer" with its large flywheels were the most popular in our region.

In 1968, Johann Degenhart handed the agricultural equipment business over to Ernst Degenhart.

At this point, Ernst Degenhart started selling John Deere tractors.

DLG Trade show in Frankfurt 1979

Our first spring exhibition was in 1976.

1976 was also the year the first Degenhart front hydraulic system was developed and mounted on a IHC tractor. In the same year, the first Degenhart front linkage for John Deere tractors was introduced.

In 1978, John Deere tractors with Degenhart front hydraulics were presented at the ZLF in Munich.

In 1979, John Deere presented our Degenhart front hydraulics system at the DLG as a world premiere.

In 1980, we continued development of the Degenhart front hydraulics.

Between 1982 and 1992, we leased “Honhold Landmaschinen” in Memmingen, a IHC tractor distributor. After the end of the lease contract, we were able to take over the entire staff.

In 1986, we adapted the Degenhart front hydraulic system to the new model range.

Since 1992, Ernst Degenhart in Schwaighausen has been continually modernised and extended

Here you can see the Degenhart front hydraulics for the 8000 Series as an example for various adaptations.

Today, we operate from our new Ernst Degenhart factory premises in the Schwaighausen industrial and commercial area.
